Free light guide · 2026

How to light
every room.

Handmade Archy lamps from recycled plaster — and the simple principles for making your whole home warm and beautiful with them.

Welcome

Light makes
a home.

Most lighting guides start with the lamp. We start with the feeling.

Good light is what makes a home warm, calm and truly yours — the difference between a room you leave and one you want to stay in.

In this guide we share the simple principles we've learned in twelve years of making lamps, with photos from real homes. No jargon — just how to show every room in its best light.

At the end you'll find your own match in a minute. Enjoy.

01 — The basics

Five principles
for beautiful light.

Get these five right and you'll choose well in every room.

01

Think in layers

One big ceiling light makes a room flat. Combine them: a set above the table, a spot where you work, a warm glow in a corner. Layers add depth and atmosphere.

02

Hang at the right height

Above a dining table, ±65 cm above the tabletop; above a kitchen island, ±80 cm. Lower than you think — that gives focus and a cosy, inviting light.

03

Choose warm light

Go for warm white (±2700K). Warm light makes materials look richer and a room instantly more luxurious and calm. Cold light feels like an office.

04

Play with heights

Don't hang the lamps all at the same height. Hang the smalls slightly higher than the mediums and they shine onto each other — a beautiful effect in the evening, especially with the white Archys.

05

Mind scale & spacing

Keep the outer lamps ±30–40 cm in from the edge of the table. Too far apart and the set falls apart; spaced well and it reads as one whole.

02 — Room by room

Room by room.

Four places in the home, and the set that looks best in each.

Above the dining table

The heart of the home. A set of Archys at different heights looks playful yet clean, and lights exactly the table — the focus is on the company, not the whole room. Hang it low (±65 cm) for a cosy feel.

Above the kitchen island

Practical and beautiful. Above an island, two or three pendants at the same height look cleanest. Want to keep it calm? Use the smalls as spots in the rail — directed light without a separate spotlight shape.

Atmosphere in the seating area

Here it's about atmosphere, not function. One statement cluster, or a few Archys at different heights in a corner, adds warmth and character. Layer it with your existing lighting.

The centrepiece

The first thing guests see. In a stairwell or double-height space, a long drop or a cluster at different heights really comes into its own. Dare to go big here — 9 or 11 Archys above a double-height space is a real showstopper.

The story

From plaster waste
to warm light.

Every Archy starts as plaster waste that would otherwise go to landfill. We draw the moisture out with steam, remix it and cast it in our own moulds. Then each pendant is dried, finished and coated by hand.

From recycling to a finished set takes three to four weeks. No mass production — handwork, in our own workshop, from a material with a second life. That's what you hang above your table.

White or black?

In the end it's a personal choice — a question of the look you want. (Golden rule, with a wink: the wife is always right.)

White Archys above an oval dining table

White

Calming, and it stands out subtly — even against a white wall. With a black cord it's a lovely contrast; with a linen cord, wonderfully calm.

Black Archy pendants above a kitchen island

Black

Bolder, draws more attention, beautiful in a space that's already a little darker. Coated white or gold inside for plenty of light output.

Cord & fitting: linen + brass for a warm, Scandinavian look; black for contrast and minimalism.
